I’m Joanna Anderson, a PACFA-registered Art Therapist and qualified educator with a deep-rooted passion for supporting mental health and well-being through creative expression. My journey with art psychotherapy began over a decade ago as a client which led me to later complete a Bachelor of Art Psychotherapy at the IKON Institute.
Since then, I’ve developed a holistic practice that blends therapeutic creativity, education, and community outreach.
My professional experience spans working with:
As a registered teacher (TRB) with over 10 years' experience in education, I bring a trauma-informed, inclusive, and play-based approach to all my sessions—both online and in person.
I hold a current Working With Children Check and collaborate with schools, families, and allied professionals to ensure safe and supportive care for every individual.
I am also actively involved in volunteer coordination, cultural exchange programs, and environmental initiatives, reflecting my broader commitment to community well-being and social connection.
Whether you're seeking support for a child, a young person, or yourself, I offer a compassionate space to explore, create, and grow.
Feeling stuck? Art Therapy can help you move forward.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed, anxious, or just stuck in a cycle you can’t seem to break? Sometimes, words alone aren't enough to express what’s going on inside. That’s where Art Psychotherapy can help.
Art Therapy offers a powerful, creative pathway for exploring emotions, processing trauma, and gaining new perspectives. You don’t need to be "good at art"—this is about expression, not perfection. It’s about finding your voice, even if it starts with a paintbrush, a movement, or a story.
Whether you're navigating grief, stress, mental health challenges, or life transitions, Art Therapy provides a safe and supportive space to:
What can Art Therapy include?
Depending on your needs and preferences, sessions may draw from a variety of expressive modalities:
🎨 Creative Arts (drawing, painting, collage, sculpture)
🎭 Drama and Role Play
📖 Narrative Therapy and Storytelling
🧘♀️ Movement and Body Awareness
🎶 Music and Sound
🧸 Play and Imaginative Exploration
Every session is tailored to meet you where you’re at—whether you’re a child, teenager, adult, or older adult. Sessions are available in-person or online, with individual or small group options available.
If you're ready to explore a new way of healing and self-discovery, Art Therapy might be the gentle, creative support you’ve been looking for.
*No artistic experience necessary—just a willingness to try!
As a certified PACFA member (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), I understand that the act of creating can often breakthrough the limitations of language, allowing for you to have deeper expression of emotions that may be difficult to articulate verbally. My art therapy programs provides a unique and powerful way to explore your inner world, develop self-awareness, and work towards positive change in a supportive and in a non-judgmental environment. My goal is to help my clients develop the tools and skills they need to manage life's challenges and achieve their goals. I offer individual therapy as well as group therapy and workshops.

Art psychotherapy, also known as art therapy, involves the use of artistic methods to help create solutions for life blocks and enhance mental health. It is a form of psychotherapy that integrates the creative process of making art with psychotherapeutic techniques. This approach is guided by a trained and licensed art therapist who combines their understanding of psychological theories with their knowledge of art processes.
Art as therapy, on the other hand, refers to the use of creative activities for general well-being and self-expression without the formal structure of psychotherapy. It emphasizes the process of creating art as a form of self-care and personal enrichment rather than as a clinical intervention.
JJ's Creative Art Therapies offers a range of therapy services including individual online therapy, in person therapy, group therapy and art therapy for children.
